Why do we need a handicap allowance for competitions?

Competitions are an important part of a golf club’s DNA. Every competitor needs to feel they have a chance of winning a match play tie or placing high in a field if playing well.

To promote equity in net competitions, the Rules of Handicapping provide mandatory handicap allowances to determine the percentage of their Course Handicap™ players receive.

Allowances vary depending on the format of play and are in place to provide everyone as best as possible an equal opportunity of winning in a head-to-head match play situation or finishing in the top 10% of a field when playing in a stroke play setting.
