What is Get into Golf?

Our national Get into Golf programme has been developed to introduce and retain more adult beginners in the game, with a particular emphasis on women and the creation of a new pathway into membership. Adopted by more than 100 clubs across the country Get into Golf – supported by Scottish Golf – can provide everything you need to help make a success at your club, including the provision of planning tools, funding, marketing support and club case studies.

We also share research and insights to identify the needs and wants of new golfers, as well as the various 'do’s and don’ts', based on feedback from those who have recently been involved in Get into Golf programmes at clubs across Great Britain and Ireland, helping to ensure that your club programme hits the mark

Why Should Your Club Get into Golf?

The last few years have seen a spike in membership, so clubs are looking at ways to retain these new golfers and continue to attract a new generation of players into the game. The traditional model of membership is also being challenged, as consumers spend their time and money in a different way.

Golf is a sport that's evolving and modernising. A recent PGA research report highlighted how golf in all its forms is growing and touches different sections of the community in different ways. A key finding of the report shows that 40% of all adults in the UK and Ireland engage with golf in any capacity, equating to a huge community of 22.4 million individuals.

Of those 22.4 million people engaged with golf, 16.3 million are playing any form of golf – from adventure golf to pitch and putt – whilst 4.9 million are playing golf ‘on course’. There is a huge opportunity for clubs to engage with new golfers from all backgrounds and encourage them along the pathway to golf club membership.

Get into Golf targets adults who have never tried golf before, or returners who may have played when they were younger but not in adulthood. We will help you identify key steps in planning a successful programme to attract more first-time golfers into coaching and ultimately membership at your club.

Our Get into Golf support package offers access to a wide range of resources to help deliver the right activity at your club, these include a planning guide, marketing support and funding to help with coaching and equipment.

Should you need any advice on these please don’t hesitate to contact a member of the Scottish Golf team at Club Support Team at clubsupport@scottishgolf.org
