How do I record my score when a hole is not started or not completed?

When you play a round it is possible that a hole won’t be completed or you are unable to finish that hole.

A ‘Hole Not Played’ is only to be used in an unavoidable circumstance. It is not a ‘choice’ available for the player - a player may not just ‘decide to walk in’.

Circumstances where a ‘Hole Not Played’ may be justifiably used would be:

  • Hole(s) closed by the Committee due to:
    1. work on the hole(s),
    2. hours of available light.
  • A player may have to discontinue play due to:
    1. becoming ill, or injured,
    2. being called off the course for an emergency or unsafe event.

In such circumstances, or similar, it is acceptable for a player to submit a “not started” for those holes still to be played (or missed out). The returned scorecard should be processed using the actual scores achieved on the holes completed, but designating those not played as “not started”. This process will correctly allocate the required score for handicapping purposes.

Here is how to score them:

  • When a hole is started but not completed an NR or 0 should be recorded which will then score you as a Nett double bogey
    1. On the app it is a “0”
  • When the hole wasn't played an NS or blank should be recorded which will then score you as a Nett par 
    1. On the app it is blank – providing you have achieved the minimum of 10 holes for an 18 hole round

Confirmation of the minimum hole requirement:

  • For a 9 hole round it is mandatory to complete all 9 holes.
  • For an 18 hole round the minimum requirement is 10 holes for it to be an acceptable round.
